The Swamplanders Cartoon Strip
Fame At Last for The Swamplanders!
cartoon: the swamplanders
THE SWAMPLANDERS cartoon strip appeared in The Scout, a weekly magazine for young members of the UK Scout Association, between September and December 1960.

Created by amateur cartoonist Aitch, the characters were VERY loosely based on the members of a South London Rover Crew. Their exploits, as depicted in the cartoons, are, of course, total fantasy.... or at least that's what our legal advisers recommend we should say!

The then editor of The Scout magazine, Rex Hazlewood, was generous enough to encourage young Aitch to produce his works of art and to publish them - even though he was once heard to remark that it was a style of humour he personally found incomprehensible. However, let's hope you'll find something to chuckle at in the adventures of Swamplanders Aitch, Stan, Sir Alain, Dulles, Curly and Whiffles on the pages that follow.....
