January 17-18 1959 Cuban Rebel Hike. A night hike with four teams starting from Swanley, Orpington, West Malling and Fawkham with the aim of meeting at Shoreham.
Through the year... Youth Hostelling. This was the year that several of the Swamplanders decided to use Youth Hostels - mostly in the home counties - for overnight accommodation on weekend hikes. Included were: Chaldon (January 31/February 1), Jordans (February 21/22), Nazeing (March 21/22), Kemsing (April 11/12), Tanners Hatch (June 13/14), Hockley (August 13/14) and North East Yorkshire (various) in late August and early September.
March 27-30 1959 Easter Camp at Laleham... involving Stan, Alan, Jim, Mac, Whiffles, Dulles, Trog, Bash and Aitch. It rained a lot!
April 22 1959 Central Lambeth Rover Scout AGM in the Scout Cabin, Stockwell Park Crescent.
May 1-2 1959 Central Lambeth Scout Show "Ride" at Lambeth Town Hall. Swamplanders in leading roles!
May 9-10 1959 Fieldfare night hike near Marlow, Bucks.
May 15-18 1959 Whitsun Camp: Stock, Essex.. .involving Woolly, Alan, Jim, Les, Doug and Aitch. High drama when Doug fell off his Vespa and required a ton of gravel removing from his arm.
June 27 1959 London Rover Scouts Sports at Tooting Bec Track. Swamplander athletes were Stan, Alan, Jim and Les. They came 6th out of the 9 teams competing.
July 25 - August 1 1959 8th Lambeth Cub Camp at Buckmore Park, Kent. Followed by Scout Troop Camp from August 1. Rover members helped at various times as work and holidays allowed.

September 19-20 1959 First South West London Rover/Ranger Camp, Cudham, Kent. Aitch attended all weekend. Alan, Jim and Les only made it for the Sunday, having ended up at the wrong (South East London Rover/Ranger) camp in the nearby Downe Campsite for Saturday. Very confusing!
