Community public access defibrillators

Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) offer 24-hour public access to life-saving equipment. They are designed to enable members of the public to administer swift treatment to anyone experiencing a cardiac arrest (heart failure).

Provided as part of a campaign by the Heartstart South East Coast project, the PADs are being installed at a growing number of locations. In the Deal and Walmer area these are currently at:

  •  Deal Town Hall, High Street, Deal;
  •  Dunkerley's Hotel and Restaurant, 19 Beach Street, Deal;
  •  Elizabeth House, St Mary's Road, Upper Walmer;
  •  Great Mongeham Parish Hall, 170 Mongeham Road,
     Great Mongeham
    ; and
  •  Kingsdown Village Hall, Upper Street, Kingsdown.

The procedure for using the PAD equipment is as follows:

  1. call 999
  2. say you think someone has had a cardiac arrest
  3. quote the postcode on the PAD cabinet
  4. the 999 operator will give you a code to open the cabinet.

Similar equipment (with trained operators) is also available at a number of locations in the Deal and Walmer area including GPs surgeries, dental surgeries, schools, nursing homes and some retail stores.

Knowing how to use a defibrillator is important and free training courses are available. For more details, see:
www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/how-to-save-a-life/defibrillators
