DEAL CHARITIES SEEKING HONORARY CLERKS Two local charities are looking for people to take on the roles of honorary clerk. The Mary Hougham Almshouses charity is responsible for maintaining and letting 12 properties in Griffin Street, Deal, and needs a new clerk to start, ideally, on 1 April 2018. The Deal Relief in Need charity also needs an honorary clerk when the position becomes vacant at the beginning of January. As its name suggests, the charity provides support for people in the Deal and Walmer area who are experiencing severe need, hardship or distress. The current clerk to both charities is Walmer resident Ronald Pegden.
He explained he is having to retire from his work in supporting them and
would very much like to hear from anyone who might be interested in taking
on one or both roles. He can be contacted by
or by calling |

SEA
DEFENCE WORKS FOR DEAL'S NORTH BEACH
Work to maintain sea defences on the northern section of Deal beach starts today (Monday 30 October) and is expected to take two to three weeks. Trucks and excavators will be used to move material from north of the former Sandown Castle and spread it along the beach to between the castle and Deal Pier. The programme will mean moving 25,000 to 30,000 cubic metres of shingle. Dover District Council, who are managing the works, say they are needed to remedy the effects of shingle being moved by the tide and to help maintain sea defences for North Deal. The council's contractors also aim to re-profile the beach and level out the slopes where possible. Planned works for the future include construction of a new rock groyne at Sandown Castle to reduce the effects of longshore drift. Roger Walton, the district council's director of environment and corporate assets, said: These are key beach management works for the area. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, and hope local people will bear with us while we carry out this important work. (October 30, 2017) |
