Black Box Collections

Dover District Council operates a kerbside collection service for paper, cans and glass. Residents in areas where the scheme operates need to put out items for recycling in a specially provided black box and blue bag (for paper and card) once a fortnight by 7am on the morning of collection. To check whether your street is included see Dover District Council's blackbox recycling page.

IMPORTANT CHANGES:
NEW REFUSE AND RECYCLING SCHEME FROM SEPTEMBER 2011

Dover District Council's new arrangements for refuse and recycling collections will be introduced across the district from September 2011. Residents will receive four new containers:

  • a small food waste caddy for the kitchen,
  • a lockable food waste bin to keep outside,
  • a blue-lidded wheeled bin for recycling glass bottles and jars, cans and tins, all types of plastic packaging and cartons
    and
  • a bin for the remaining rubbish that can't be recycled or composted.

Existing black boxes will be used just for paper and card. People who currently receive a garden waste collection, will continue to receive the service. Alternative collection methods will be used for homes which cannot have wheeled bins. The food waste collections will be weekly; all the other collections will be fortnightly. Householders will receive more detailed information to explain how and when to use the service when their bins are delivered.  (August 17, 2011)

Garden Waste

Dover District Council operates a free fortnightly garden waste collection service in a number of areas. For details, see the Dover Council website. Elsewhere, the Council removes garden waste if placed in authorised green sacks and left out with the weekly refuse. Green sacks may be purchased from Dover Council offices.

Refuse Collection Days

The local refuse collection service is provided by Dover District Council.
Collection days: check your street on the Dover Council website.
